image Hi there Tylorsaurus. Lot's of interesting coins out there from the ancient years. I was just reading that the ancient greek coin makers took great pride in there feild. A coin was a piece of art to them and they would often sign their name on the coin. They were craftmen. Roman coins were made by either freemen or slaves. The beaded edge of the coin was to prevent clipping off the metal edge for the bullion, I've read. My favorite Roman coins are the ones from the city of Alexandria- A port city. I know they are kind of thick, but the eagle design on them is really nice! image
I'm not a geologist, but I've read some of the text books, studied some chemistry, and have been an avid rockhound for many decades. I work as a welder, which I really enjoy doing.
Large U.S. cents, I have a few. They weren't very popular with people using them for coinage. I read where women making pickles would add them to make their pickles a brighter green. (Also made for a bad stomach ache-being poison!). I also read that people would drill holes in them to wear as jewelry and for buttons, file them down to make into rifle sight's, etc.
Do you have a favorite mineral? What is your favorite ancient coin? Have you ever researched into the histories of the roman empeorors featured on the coins? Most were a pretty bad lot, I think. What's your oppinon? -Argenta@thetreasuresofutah
